Morsel Muncher

Welcome to the Maw

Deep inside the Endless Maw, the spider called Nibble fights to survive. This is no ordinary stomach. It is a living labyrinth of bile and hunger, where creatures are born from the Maw itself. Some burn, some burst, some claw, and some fire beams of bile. Nothing ever stays down for long.

Your task is simple in name but brutal in practice: eat, survive, and endure wave after wave for as long as you can.

Objective

Survive for as many waves as possible. Each wave brings more enemies and tougher challenges. Devour foes to gain morsels and level up. Regurgitate when your stomach is full to make space and move for free. Lose all your lives, and your run comes to an end.

Controls

Move one square at a time with the Arrow keys or WASD.
Press Space to wait. Waiting lets enemies act. If you have a morsel in your stomach, waiting consumes it for experience.

Lives

You begin with four lives. When enemies hurt you, a life is lost. Lose all lives and the Maw claims you. Rarely, you may find a Corebit. Eating one grants an extra life.

The Stomach System

Your belly is the heart of survival. It begins with three slots. Everything can go into your stomach storage, including enemies. If not at full capacity, you will eat things when moving to them. Inversely, if your inventory isn't empty, you will propel yourself through regurgitation.

  • Regurgitation always expels the most recently eaten thing.

  • Regurgitation allows you to move for free.

  • Regurgitated foes are stunned for one turn.

Enemies do not sleep inside your stomach. They continue acting exactly as they would on the field, though they cannot harm you directly. This means the stomach is its own battlefield. A bomb will still tick down. A Pyroplasm will still flare. A Sporling will still charge and fire. These interactions can destroy other stored foes, usually to your benefit.

How to Gain Power

  • Morsels are the scraps left behind when enemies die. Consuming them by waiting grants experience. You must spend a turn to digest them.

  • Experience raises your level. Each time you level up, you get to pick a relic to spawn at a random location on the map.

  • Relics are rare edible items with unique abilities. Some expand your stomach, others alter the battlefield in strange ways.

  • Corebits restore a lost life when consumed.

The Denizens of the Maw

Morsels
Harmless scraps of half-digested matter. Your only source of experience.

Gnashclaws
Hard-shelled scavengers that deal damage if they end a turn beside you. Inside the stomach, they become trapped and are at the mercy of the dangers surrounding them. When reduced to zero health, they collapse into a morsel.

Pyroplasms
The Maw’s fever given form. These fiery creatures burn everything within one tile. When reduced to zero health, they collapse into a morsel. Inside the stomach, they keep flaring, scorching whatever shares a slot beside them.

Boomlings
Cartoonish black bombs with malicious grins. Boomlings carry a five-turn timer. Each turn brings them closer to detonation. When the timer ends they explode, damaging everything within two tiles and leaving behind a morsel. Inside the stomach, they tick just the same, destroying whatever they sit beside.

Sporlings
Fungal parasites are rooted in bile. Sporlings charge for one turn before unleashing a beam in a straight line. Outside the stomach, their beams cross the entire field. Inside, the blasts are confined, striking only enemies stored next to them.

Relics
Strange indigestible fragments of old power. Each relic appears in the maw stationary until consumed. Their effects vary: some grant new abilities, some warp enemy behaviour, and some expand your stomach beyond its starting three slots.

Corebits
Beating fragments of living tissue. Extremely rare, but invaluable. Eating one grants you an additional life.

Strategy

To last in the Maw, you must master both sides of your stomach. Outside, enemies swarm in endless waves. Inside, the creatures you swallow continue to act. Clever players use these interactions to their advantage. A Pyroplasm can burn down foes beside it. A Boomling can clear several slots at once when it goes off. A well-timed regurgitation can block an attack, lure enemies into danger, or spark a chain reaction.

Above all, plan your order of eating carefully. Since you always regurgitate the most recent enemy or Relic, every bite locks in a risk and a potential tool.

The Maw is endless. The only measure of victory is how long you survive. Eat wisely. Spit strategically. And never stop scuttling.

Made it to like level 6 or 7, neat game. At first I didn’t understand itand I didn’t notice there was instructions just trail and errored it.

Pretty fun game! Good job! It gets addicting!

You should add these instructions to the game!

I can imagine people getting frustrated at the start not understanding what’s going on and quitting before they get to the core game loop.

Cheers, I’m glad you enjoyed it ❤️. Yeah I’d imagine that it’s a little discombobulating without instructions. You’re 100% right, would be nice if there was lil a tutorial or something too.

Great stuff getting to level 6/7 😁
